If you are like the majority of adults, you have probably forgone a formal education and focused on survival. You tended to your need for shelter, food and clothing. You may have started a family earlier than most. You may have had to take care of a sick or dying relative. At the time, I am sure you didn’t have a viable choice. You did what you had to do. But now, something has to change. As the world becomes more technologically focused, you need to educate yourself to keep pace. Without obtaining the specialized knowledge and training needed to compete in today’s workplace, you are demoted to the ranks of “manual laborer”. There is nothing wrong with being a manual laborer. But if you have the intellectual ability to achieve more; wouldn’t that make more sense? In my personal experience, Grantham University offers a quality online education, that is both accommodating and accessible, to those who want to pursue higher education and secure an accredited online degree. You realize that in order to get ahead in life, you are going to need a formal education. Malcom X said, “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.” I can remember my sweet mother quoting that to me. She never made it educationally past the fifth grade. She always wanted me to better myself through education.
I was the first person in my family to graduate high school. But I got pregnant my senior year. I wasn’t able to attend college immediately after high school as planned. It took me an additional 7 years for me to be able to return to my dream of attending college. When you attend a traditional college, they have fixed class schedules. If you can’t attend when they say you have to, there aren’t very many reasonable accommodations. At one of the big universities that I attended, they offered me some online classes. It allowed me to do my work when I was available and had time to focus. Quite often, this meant at 4 am in the morning. This was a time in my busy schedule that my young children were still sleeping and I had a solid 3 hours of uninterrupted quiet time. To my surprise, I did very well online. I quickly discovered that I really didn’t need the instructor writing passages from the text book on the white board and discussing it. Unlike the young students attending, I was already an adult. I wasn’t doing this because my parents said I had to go to school, or just because my friends were doing it. I was doing it for myself and for my children’s future. I was capable of reading the assignments and then taking the tests. Online was perfect for me. And then reality sunk in. My online course in psychology was over and I was back on the schedule for an in-seat class at the university. I struggled for an additional semester. Then suddenly, my youngest daughter became very ill. I had no choice but to stay home and care for her. It seemed as if all was lost and then suddenly it hit me. Why not search for a university that offers all of its classes online? My research led me in a hundred different directions. Finally, one school, above all others surfaced as a logical choice. That school was Grantham University.
As you research ways to obtain a flexible college education, you are likely to come across a university called, “Grantham University”; just like I did. This is the choice I made after giving up on attending a brick and mortar institution. Let me tell you why I chose this school instead of the hundreds of others. Grantham University, one of the oldest, private, accredited degree granting distance education universities in the United States. They have been around for over 60 years. I figured if they have been around that long, they must be doing something right! They focus on providing distance education to the adult learner. Grantham University offers accredited degrees. Their curriculum is designed so students can fit education into their lives instead of arranging their lives around their education. Now that makes sense!
Malcolm X also said, “The future belongs to those that prepare for it today” So I realized I had to do it now, or face the reality that without a formal education and college degree, my earnings would be greatly reduced. As a single mother of 2 little girls, this wasn’t only for the sake of my future, but for theirs as well. I needed to step up and set the example.
It would take me 50 pages to explain why I chose Grantham University and why I think you may want to consider them for your educational needs. So instead of going into how helpful my professors at Grantham were, etc.; I want to share one of the things I love most about Grantham University. And it is uniquely summarized in its written Statement of Purpose, which serves as the foundation Grantham University’s mission and guiding principles that guide their individual daily activities. Grantham’s written Statement of Purpose states, “Our University has an extraordinary purpose. Our University serves those who serve and those who want to make a difference. We do so by establishing a level playing field in education, specifically for those who are typically the most underserved: first generation college students, active duty military members, veterans, those who ensure our public safety, budding entrepreneurs, all those who need a second chance, and all those who never had a first chance. We help them build successful lives through our unique curriculum and personal mentoring approach. Armed with these successes, our graduates will have the most impact in strengthening our nation, and in turn, our world. We expect our students to graduate. As such, the focused efforts of each and every individual staff and faculty member, on an hourly and daily basis, seek to help the student do so. That is our accountability. That is our pledge. In a world characterized by rising education costs and unprecedented individual student debt levels, we deliver exceptional education at one of the most affordable rates in all of academia. Delivering affordability is not easy, because to maintain academic quality we cannot cut academic or student service corners. So we must execute well and exercise creativity and resourcefulness in all our approaches; measuring, analyzing, and holding each other accountable for all that we do. Our University is extraordinarily and uniquely American in character and approach. We believe in the power of an individual, no matter where their starting point, to become successful and make a difference. We believe in economic freedom and economic responsibility at the personal and national level, as well as personal freedom, personal responsibility, and personal accountability at the individual level. Such things are the backbone of the Great American Dream. Our University is composed of those who have fought for this dream, protected this dream, and achieved this dream. We know very well whom we serve. We ourselves are first generation college graduates, successful entrepreneurs, veterans of combat, public servants, and those who needed a second chance. We believe in God and Country, the Golden Rule, honesty and integrity, an abiding work ethic, and compassion for those less fortunate. We respect differing opinions and values, and as Americans, we are at the center of a truly global outlook. We respect those who came before us and their efforts to provide a future for us, and we pursue our mission unapologetically, aggressively, and proactively. As an organization, we have two historical icons that were selected for their overwhelming impact on all of the values above. They are Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. Both used The US Constitution as their platforms for change, both believed in the power of individuals to make a difference, and both died for their causes while making a difference themselves. Meeting Individuals’ and Society’s Needs: We provide education in useful, productive professions, and we are entrepreneurial, opportunistic, and flexible in our selection of programs. There are innumerable opportunities to add value to organizations, their employees, and their causes. We work hard to find those opportunities and expediently design programs to help meet their needs. As such, our offerings are dynamic, ebbing and flowing with society’s needs. We are true academic entrepreneurs, squeezing dollars from processes, bootstrapping, conserving, and spending wisely while delivering a high quality college education and experience. This approach ensures an affordable education and increases the value of our organization for all constituencies. We are dedicated to providing a life-changing, success-building, relevant, economically-rewarding, accessible, and affordable education delivered to as many people as we can. Our daily efforts are focused on supporting you, our student, to achieve the following in your quest to building a successful life:
2. Provide stability for your family.
3. Achieve your financial, educational, and career goals without a lifetime of debt.
4. Better serve your employer.
5. If you choose, be a successful entrepreneur in the true American spirit.”
